Campfires and S’mores

I have been obsessed with S’mores this summer (and even found yummy gluten free graham crackers that my son can have). I’ve been doing a little research lately and learned two fabulous tricks on how to create the perfect S’more. I apologize in advance if I’m a bit late to the party on these…

Trick #1:

Substitute a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup for the Hershey Bar (or in my case, in addition to the Hershey bar!). This is obviously not suitable for anyone with nut allergies – especially if kids are sharing skewers – so make sure you ask your friends/guests in advance.

Trick #2:

Big shout-out to my nephew Andrew, who taught me this next trick over the weekend. For those of you who like the perfect golden brown on the outside and gooey-on-the-inside marshmallows, Andrew suggests “licking the outside of the marshmallow – or better yet, popping the whole thing in your mouth for a good 5 seconds before roasting.” This keeps the marshmallow from EVER burning and/or lighting on fire.

For people like me who get impatient and inevitably end up sticking the the whole marshmallow deep in the fire and instantly burning it way before the inside has time to melt, this is the perfect trick! My husband would like me to add that it’s best to only do this trick with your OWN marshmallow or things can get kinda gross…

Here’s to camp fires, S’mores and perfectly roasted marshmallows.
