Moms, Take Some Time For Yourselves!
This week’s theme is ‘Moms’. One of the best parts about working at babybites is getting to meet so many incredible moms! Interestingly, I have found that one of the hardest questions for a mom to answer is almost always this one, “What do you do for you?” Ask a mom what time her child goes to sleep and she can tell you their sleep cycle and bedtime routine without battling an eyelash. Her child’s favorite food? How much they normally drink? Length of time they nurse? Child’s favorite stuffed animal? Easy questions! Ask a mom her best friend’s ex-boyfriend’s name, the date of her mother-in-law’s birthday or her husband’s home town. Bring it on.
But ask a mom what they do just for themselves on a regular basis and they often pause or say something like, “define on a regular basis.” I guess what I’m saying is as moms, we often spend so much time making sure everyone else’s needs are met, we often forget about our own needs, likes and hobbies. Yet, taking time on a regular basis to do something for ourselves is one of the best things we can do for our children and our families. Taking “me time” makes us better moms, wives and friends. Here are a few things I try to do regularly just for me – hot yoga, reality TV watching and Nutella eating (but never all at the same time, although now that I mention it… !).
I know it’s often easier said than done, but here’s to being able to answer the question the next time someone asks you what you do for you.
