Savvy Mothers Provide Better Health Outcomes

In the United States, many processed foods contain Round-Up ready soy and corn that has been modified to produce several varieties of BT proteins, which act as insecticides within the plant. There is no way to wash off either from our food – both Round-Up ready pesticides and BT proteins are contained within the plant itself.

A recent study done by Dr. Judy Carman in Australia links GMO feed to severe gut inflammation in pigs. Scientific studies on GMO in our country don’t take into account whether GMO is safe for animals or humans. The current model of testing determines only if the animal will produce more if GMO feed is used (i.e., larger breast meat, more milk, greater yield, etc.).

This criteria is not a measure of the health or fertility of the animal. These are simply animal production studies – not safety studies. This type of research is detrimental to our health. Knowing this provides us with an incredible opportunity to band together and demand a change in research policy geared toward GMO and GE foods.

As a mother, health coach and nutritional therapist, I fail to see how a reliance on GMO foods will improve our nation’s overall health over time. It’s widely believed that the current model will continue to cause a decline – each generation sicker than the last – until we reach an inevitable point of widespread infertility.

Our best defense against this is a system that supports local organic sustainable agriculture. You might already know this if you’re a food-savvy mom. If not, you can become an early adaptor by eliminating GMO products from your family’s food. Whenever possible:

  • Choose only organic until we get better labeling laws.
  • Incorporate as many grass-fed/wild caught/pastured meats, traditional fats and fermented foods as you can into your diet.
  • Cut out processed foods and foods with refined sugar as much as possible.

In today’s food climate, the more we know about our food, the better. Food-savvy moms are the key to producing healthier individuals for future generations.
