Around The World in 80 Days

If global travel doesn’t fit into your busy schedule these days, then take a few hours and head to the New Theater in Midtown to see Around the World in 80 Days. This play by Mark Brown is based on the 1873 classic novel by Jules Verne and directed by Rachel Klein.

Five actors masterfully reenact the tale of a stodgy Brit named Phileas Fogg, and his French valet, Passpartout, as they travel the globe covering four continents and three oceans in 80 days, all in an effort to win a wager.

In this high-spirited global adventure, a motley crew of characters overcome a range of obstacles that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. With witty dialogue, a cleverly repainted theater and an amped up sound system, (that has you feeling the rumblings of each train ride) this voyage is entertaining from start to finish.

The five-member cast do an impressive job with various accents, costumes and low-budget props to portray multiple characters and keep the tale hurtling along. A determined detective, an opium war, an elephant, a raging typhoon, and ultimately a love story involving a rescued Indian princess are all a part of this fast-paced tale.

If you’re a lover of classics with a travel bug, then make it a point to book a trip to the New Theater and catch a performance of 80 Days Around the World!
