Hey everyone! I wanted to share a glowing recommendation for our nanny, Janell. She's been with us since our little guy Jack was just 4 months old, and let me tell you, she's been a total rockstar.
Janell started out in a nanny share with another kiddo, Maeve, who's the same age as Jack. And let me just say, she has absolutely crushed it handling two toddlers at the same time. I have no idea how she does it, but she makes it look easy.
Before going the nanny route, Janell had experience in a preschool classroom, and she's put that expertise to great use. She has this whole classroom vibe going on, with fun daily activities, arts and crafts, the works. The kids are always learning and exploring.
And the outings? Janell is the queen of field trips! She takes them to the museum, library, music classes, the zoo - you name it. These little adventurers are always on the go.
What I really love though is how Janell has gone out of her way to get our family plugged into the community. She's made tons of new friends for Jack (and me!), and is always setting up playdates.
We're on the Upper West Side, but Janell has said she'd be open to working with families all over Manhattan, and even parts of Queens and LIC.

She is reliable, hardworking, proactive, caring, and I feel so incredibly lucky to have had her in our lives for this time. My son loves her so much, and she is so caring and conscientious about what is best for him. She changes her clothes when she arrives because she doesn’t want her subway clothes around him. When he was a baby she was great with tummy time, etc, and as he’s gotten older she’s been incredible with reading to him / teaching him things (he surprises me with things all the time like knowing all about the solar system at 2 years old) / making friends for playdates. When I work from home I hear them laughing endlessly in his room, she’s always finding ways to entertain him. She does absolutely everything related to his food, I don’t even have to think about it and she makes him amazing, healthy meals. I breastfed for a year, and she washed and sanitized all of my pump parts everyday when I got home from work (I really don’t think I could’ve done that without her). When he started solids, she made all of his food homemade. She also cooks for my husband and me, and prepares whatever we buy for us to eat as well. When I’m sick, she makes me soup and tea. She’s Thai, and makes amazing Thai food! I’m a very particular person and she’s so clean and tidy, and a very quiet, calm presence in our home. We are incredibly sad to part ways, but we had another baby in January and she would prefer to care for just one baby. I’d hire her again in a heartbeat.

Arlene is a professional, coming to us with many great references, to which I am adding my own. She is amazing at keeping routines, sleep training, planning playdates, and cooking real meals. She had no problem with our vegetarian restrictions and my kids always ate well with her. Arlene is loving, but good with boundaries and getting the kids to listen. She also communicates well with us: more then just sending photos (which she does), she actually discusses how the kids responded to events or aspects of their developing personalities.
I highly recommend her, especially for younger infants and toddlers. (She taught my youngest to nap and it was a lifesaver.) She drives and has her own transportation. She is dependable and will become invested in the well-being of your kids. We are only parting ways because our youngest is ready for school in the fall.
Arlene is a certified baby-nurse, and certified for CPR and first-aid. She is vaccinated and has recent background check. She is looking for ~45 hr/week. We'd like her to stay at least till the end of the school year, but can be flexible with her start date for the right fit.

Dechen is one of the world’s best nannies imaginable. Dechen has been with my family since 2021 and I cannot say enough good things.
With my older daughter (3yo), their bond is so special - Dechen has the perfect balance of discipline and kindness, showing massive amounts of patience with a toddler but also ensuring the rules are followed and they get out the door on time for school/activities/etc. Dechen has created an entire world and social life for our daughter - before she was in school Dechen found lots of play dates and friends for her in the park and in classes, and even on rainy days I’d overhear them playing in her room giggling in their imaginary world of pretend tea parties, grocery stores, playing doctor, etc. We also credit Dechen with how verbal our daughter is as Dechen has always spoken to her in real full sentences and treated her with the right balance of respect and silliness - a rare trait in Nannies. Whether they are running around in the park or doing an art project in the kitchen, they are always chatting away and having fun. On the weekends, my daughter constantly corrects me on how to wash her hair without hurting her eyes or how to push the swing the right way, which is a huge testament to her amazing relationship with Dechen. Dechen is also a true partner to a family - now that my daughter is in school I would update her on the parent teacher conference feedback so we could brainstorm together any changes we needed to make. She also potty trained our toddler in literally 3 days. She read an entire book about how to do it and proactively came up with activities for those few days and I truly do not know a single other family who had as good an experience with this as we did. It was unbelievable. She also helped our older daughter get ready for the new baby constantly talking to her about becoming a big sister and all of the fun amazing things they all would do together when the baby came.
With my younger daughter (4 months), Dechen has been the baby whisperer with her since day 1. She has been there to help us through nap training, she has given countless bottles (mixing the formula perfectly every time), and has spent huge amounts of time exposing our baby to books and words and songs during her awake windows.
From a safety and judgment perspective there is no one better. Dechen is self sufficient in executing good judgment about our daughter, particularly when it came to her health and well being. She frequently took her to pediatrician appointments without a parent present and took notes for us on what the doctor said, she administered medicine for our daughter, and she even found a tick on her that neither my husband nor I noticed. Our daughter is always perfectly lathered in sunscreen and safety has never been a concern.
Dechen also has a wonderful attitude in our house and is a pleasure to have around. She is thoughtful and kind and curious and even excelled in the tough situation of lots of extended family around all of the time. I am a very particular person and Dechen was always able and happy to follow how I wanted things done for my girls. She is willing to help out however necessary (for us for example that has included 100% of the cooking and food prep for our daughter for breakfast lunch dinner and snacks). She is a good communicator and extremely easy to work with.
I cannot recommend her enough!

Our amazing nanny Jody is looking for a new position. She took care of our twin girls full time from the time they were two months old until they transitioned to full-time pre-K at 4 years old. Jody has take care of five sets of twins so you are truly working with someone who is a twin expert and who knows all the tricks for juggling multiple children.
She saw our girls (and us) through every major milestone. She taught us how to bottle feed two infants at once, got them on a nap schedule and then transitioned from two naps to one, handled potty training, taught them to walk safely on the sidewalk, helped them work through their tantrums, and on and on. I truly don’t know how we would have made it through the infant and toddler years without Jody’s help. She is extremely reliable, trustworthy, endlessly flexible (moved out of the city with us during Covid!), loves to take kids to the park, arrange play dates, go to classes and generally keeps our high-energy girls on the move and worn out by bedtime.
In addition to everything you would expect (kids laundry, tidying rooms, etc.), she is a fantastic cook and truly goes above and beyond making sure that the girls have a healthy and adventurous diet. She made her own purees when they were babies and then made delicious homecooked meals as they got older. We constantly get amazed comments on the things that our girls eat (sautéed spinach, eggplant, quinoa, salmon, lentils, asparagus, you name it). On top of all that, she is incredibly easy-going with our noisy and rambunctious dog. Most importantly, at the end of every day our girls are safe, happy, loved and excited to tell us about all the fun they had with Jody. I’ve received so many compliments from teachers, parents, even strangers in the park about how great Jody is. She deeply loves our girls as if they are her own and we really want to help her find a new family who will love and appreciate her as much as we do.

We are re-locating and looking for a new family for our incredible nanny Mel. We love her dearly and our daughter Sophie cherishes every moment with her. Our hope is to find her a family that will welcome her as part of their family. Mel has taken care of our 5-year-old daughter for past 5 years, and we are saddened to see her go. She originally came highly recommended to us by a close friend whose son she had been taken care of and was off and was now off to school.
Mel is warm, sweet, reliable, and couldn't be more loving with our daughter. Also, she has a background in First Aid & is ADE certified from the American Red Cross. With that in mind, we also felt assured that are child was in great hands. We couldn't have asked for a better, comfortable first-time baby/nanny experience.
She's always gone above and beyond our expectation in caring for our child-not to mention, we have always come back to an immaculate house. Her first priority was caring for our child, and we have complete trust in her with our daughter.

Vicky Blai is a superb caregiver and true professional. She is a career nanny with decades of experience in Manhattan and Brooklyn and a native French speaker.
Vicky is nurturing and has an unparalleled patience and optimism that proved invaluable during key milestones, such as transitioning to bottles/solids, my own transition back to the office, potty training (my daughter was day-time potty trained by 2 years), inevitable challenging periods (my daughter has struggled with constipation and has often required suppositories, gentle encouragement on the potty, etc.), and major live events (Vicky responded to news we were relocating with genuine enthusiasm and aplomb).
She is devoted to my daughter and to her profession – she has never missed a day, even amid subway closures, travel mishaps, illnesses, etc. In fact, we found out later that when she first interviewed with us, she arrived more than an hour early to wait around the corner in frigid November weather.
Vicky is such an experienced nanny that she knows exactly what types of activities are conducive to a child’s age and abilities. She was incredibly tapped into our Carroll Gardens community, despite her previous roles in different neighborhoods and boroughs, and was constantly alerting me to new classes and activities for little ones – like gymnastics, music classes, and reading circles. She developed a lovely community of friends for my daughter and proactively arranged play dates.
Vicky has fostered my daughter’s independence and curiosity, to the point where my daughter marched into her first day of preschool without so much a wave or acknowledgement to us (thoroughly wounding my husband’s ego in the process). Vicky is also bilingual and speaks to my daughter primarily in French, which has been an excellent opportunity to expose my daughter to another language (she has already developed the most adorable French accent as a result!).
Most importantly, Vicky loves my daughter as if she were her own. Vicky is an integral part of our family – a genuine partner to my husband and me – and we are heartbroken to part ways. However, we have moved further into Brooklyn and require full-time/extended care while Vicky is now seeking 4 days/week in Manhattan.

Eartha is an extremely warm, nurturing, and kind soul. She is a true natural with newborns, a “baby whisperer.” With over 25 years of experience and a mother of 4 (all grown now) she is able to provide care on another level— she brings a unique intelligence to her caregiving.
As a first time parent I needed someone who could guide me and make suggestions based not only on best baby practices but also a deep understanding of my child’s individual needs. I had a very difficult delivery followed by a weeklong stay in the hospital and I honestly don’t know how I would’ve managed without Eartha. She stayed with me for 6+ weeks postpartum and cared not only for my child but looked out for the well being of me and my family. My baby had colic and acid reflux and she was able make the diagnosis before we even saw the doctor. After the diagnosis was confirmed by our pediatrician, she tracked and dosed the prescribed medications and made necessary feeding adjustments to accommodate the reflux and gas. With Eartha’s direct care and supervision, my child continued to gained weight and is now thriving!
Eartha took my baby on walks in the stroller, to doctor appointments, made key suggestions for best products/toiletries to use for baby, tidied the nursery and organized the baby gifts and clothing, lbathed/dressed baby, did baby’s laundry, washed bottles and dishes, other light housework, and more.
I loved the way Eartha talked to my baby and sang to her constantly. As soon as baby was opening eyes for extended periods of time she made sure black and white pictures were around to stimulate her.
Eartha is forever part of our family and anyone who works with her is more than lucky to have this gem care for their child. She is the best of the best.
