According to Emily Post, etiquette means “treating people with consideration, respect and honesty and being aware of how your actions affect those around us”. Our facilitator, Dr. Kate Roberts, also believes that etiquette involves trying to make the people that you’re with feel comfortable.

Today’s parents are overwhelmed in their daily tasks, often multi-tasking and therefore less aware of their own shorthanded approach as they attempt to get each task accomplished in the shortest amount of time. Not taking time for connection during transitions can come across as insensitive and impolite, even if the intent maybe different on the part of the parent.

If we as adults are challenged to be polite, imagine how difficult it is for our children to learn good manners and yet it’s as important given the limited time we have to connect.

This teleclass focuses on:

  • How parents can recognize their own contribution to poor etiquette
  • How they can teach good manners to their children and
  • What the very positive benefits are of practicing the discipline and art of etiquette in today’s shorthand world.

Feeling disorganized? Mothers can feel like life is running on a never-ending loop. Just when one problem or responsibility is overcome, another trips us up.

But help is on the way: Barbara Reich has all the strategies for staying ahead of the curve—and she’s wrapped them up into four easy steps that can be applied to any organizing project:

1. purge
2. design
3. organize
4. maintain

The keys to Barbara’s success are simplicity and consistency. Room by room, she will walk you through the most problematic areas in the home— from the tornado-struck play area to the packed basement or storage unit. She’ll provide pointers on organizing in manageable bites— many of which can be dealt with in two hours or less. As the mother of thirteen-year-old twins, Barbara offers insight into the lives of crazed moms as only a mother could.

Barbara Reich is a professional organizer based in New York, NY.  Her tough-love approach turns organization and clutter from chore to lifestyle. She takes inspiration from her love of organizing, her husband and their thirteen year old twins.  Her book, “Secrets of an Organized Mom” is on shelves now.  To find more tips from Barbara, please visit www.facebook.com/ResourcefulConsultants or www.secretsofanorganizedmom.com.

When it comes to playing DOCTOR and HOUSE as kids, including when children experiment sexually with one another, when does it cross into inappropriate sexual contact? What can we tell our children about sexual play that will help eliminate the danger of being assaulted?

Dr. Kate will discuss:

  • What is developmentally appropriate for children ages 3-7 regarding sexual behavior and when parents should be concerned that sexual behavior crosses the line.
  • The normality of playing house or doctor, and the role of normal sexual development in these kids’ games.
  • Masturbation as part of normal sexual development and examples of  clear, comfortable language that parents can use to talk to their children about their bodies and touching their privates in ways that are normal and appropriate.

Compassionate Parenting Begins with Parents Being Compassionate towards Themselves. When I work with parents as a Parenting Coach, they often say, “I listen to how I’m talking to my children, I hear myself raising my voice, or saying something sarcastic, and I feel so bad. I never imagined talking to my children this way. I always start out with such good intentions, but they just know how to push my buttons, and I end up feeling guilty and down on myself. How can I stop this cycle of yelling and sarcasm?”

I often respond by telling parents that the road to more compassionate interactions with children, starts with being more compassionate to ourselves. It starts from above and filters down.

Take-a-ways will include the following:

  • Understand the concept of Mindful Self Compassion
  • Learn specific strategies to act more compassionately to yourself
  • Learn how that self compassion will lead toward a more compassionate approach to parenting
  • Obtain links to resources to learn more about Mindful Self Compassion in theory and practice.
