Thanks to an inevitable Halloween<\/a> sugar rush, your kids are going to have a lot of energy to burn off this weekend. Luckily, there are lots of great things to do, including two FREE Day of the Dead festivals<\/a>, Diwali celebrations at the Asia Society<\/a> and the Rubin Museum<\/a>, and even some better-late-than-never Halloween fun.<\/p>\n

All Weekend<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canstruction<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Battery Park City<\/strong>
\nOne of our November Go List picks<\/a>: Marvel at amazingly detailed sculptures constructed entirely from full cans of food! The pieces are always whimsical (the Price is Right<\/em> big wheel<\/a> was a favorite last year) and make for great photo ops. Once the exhibition is dismantled, all the cans will be donated to City Harvest<\/a>. It’s a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving season. FREE but visitors are encouraged to bring cans of food for the charity<\/p>\n

Sleeping Beauty<\/em><\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Midtown West<\/strong>
\nAnother November Go List pick<\/a>: Head to the New Victory Theater<\/a> to see this sumptuous puppet adaptation of the classic fairy tale by Italy’s Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company. Parents of princess-obsessed preschoolers take note: This 90-minute show is faithful to the original story which is much darker<\/a> than Disney’s version, so it’s probably best to heed the age recommendation of 7 and up. $14-$38. If you attend on Saturday, you can also try a puppetry family workshop<\/a> for an extra $17.<\/p>\n

Winter Village at Bryant Park Opening Weekend<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Midtown West<\/strong>
\nBryant Park<\/a>‘s ice-skating rink<\/a> has a new name (no more Pond) but it’s still FREE. Beat the coming crowds by heading out for a spin early in the season, or do some holiday shopping at the market, which also opens this weekend. FREE but skate rentals are $15<\/p>\n

Saturday:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Day of the Dead at the National Museum of the American Indian<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Financial District<\/strong>
\nHead to the always-free institution to make traditional Day of the Dead crafts like paper flowers, plaster skulls and skull masks, and enjoy live dance performances by Cetiliztli Nauhcampa. FREE<\/p>\n

The Rockdoves<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Prospect Heights<\/strong>
\nMellow out to gentle acoustic songs about birds and city life penned and performed by the local duo at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Dweck Center. FREE

\nSunday:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Puppet Take Over: Craft, Play, Perform<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Midtown West<\/strong>
\nEnjoy Urban Stages’ puppet show Dancing Guinea Pig: A Folktale from Peru<\/em>. Afterward, kids can work with the performers to create their own puppets and perform a short play. $10 for adults, $5 for kids, $30 per family<\/p>\n
