Our former nanny Gina is an incredible caregiver! She cared for our boy/girl twins full-time from when they were 3 months old until they were over 3 years old (until 3-K), and there wasn’t a moment during that time that we were concerned for their physical or emotional wellbeing.
In our eyes, Gina is super-human…she has a seemingly never-ending supply of energy and physical strength; sitting on the floor with the kiddos, lifting them up for big bear hugs, leading the charge on (successful!) potty-training, and taking them out every day to the park, the playground, the library, and other activities.
Gina cared for our children as if they were her own, but with arguably more sustained enthusiasm and patience then we mere mortal parents could muster day-in and day-out. Mayda is an incredibly loving and caring Nanny that cared for my two children from birth until preschool. It is my pleasure to recommend Afyia Nelson wonderful, trusted nanny. She cared for our first-born, Sylvester, and another family’s baby, Ava, in a nanny-share, from the time they were 3 months old until they were 2 and went to playschool.
As first-time parents, she was everything. She’d seen it all, and seh brought so much experience. She has a calm, confident, and deeply nurturing presence that immediately put us and our babies at ease. The first day we met her, I remember all of us parents were sitting together and both babies started to cry inconsolably. We all just looked at Afyia. She just quietly picked them both up, and they immediately stopped crying. That told us everything we needed to know. I have a demanding job, and she brought the same lovely, calming energy to our home every day.
One of the many things that was super helpful for us was that she got them both on a consistent nap schedule within a week. Thanks to her expertise, they both quickly became amazing sleepers, which is legitimately the greatest gift. As our children grew into energetic toddlers, Afyia met each new stage with patience, creativity, and warmth. She read to them, sang and played music for them, guided them as they developed into every new milestone, and took them out every day to local libraries and parks. She even taught Sylvester to say “please” (sometimes).
I see loads of nannies and parents glued to their phones while their kids and charges are playing in the park (I’m sometimes guilty of this myself). This is not Afyia. She’s truly present with the babies, something that is so hard to find these days.
On several occasions, people from the neighborhood and other parents who have seen her in action, have come up to me (unprompted) to tell me that Afyia is amazing.
Table stakes but super important: she is highly professional and super reliable. In all the months she worked with us, she was never once late, and she never left us the lurch. So trustworthy. For working parents, this level of dependability was a true enabler.
We feel so fortunate to have had Afyia with us during these formative years with our babies.
Over the past 5 years, Carmen has been a wonderful nanny to our two daughters. She started when my oldest daughter was three months old and was immediately a kind and loving presence in our daughter’s lives. She is nurturing, calm, and gentle with all children. Our amazing nanny, Sharon who has been with our family for almost two years, will be available in September as we transition him to Montessori school. My son was a NICU baby, who also came 3 weeks early making it one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Sharon made that decision easy. We interviewed many nannies before meeting Sharon, and I knew immediately, the way she picked him up and she held him like he was her own. I think she forgot we were asking her questions, her and Leo were just instantly bonded! (He also fell asleep in her arms, and he was not a good sleeper!).
A few things that make Sharon truly one of a kind:
1. Loving, caring and she really takes pride in raising her children. She truly loves my son. You’ll hear her say “Nana Baby!” In referring to all her prior children. Sharon has built a real community around the families she’s worked with and the children she’s raised. She still keeps in touch with her prior, including the oldest who is 21 and texts her to check-in.
2. Immaturely clean and very tidy. She is very clean and keeps my son’s room and laundry organized and clean
3. Always early – she has never been late once. In the last year Sharon has arrived early at least 20-30 minutes early. When I had planned surgery and needed her at 7AM, Sharon came 30 minutes early even then
4. Excellent with socializing and teaching my son independence. She is excellent with teaching manners, and helping with socialization. I was always worried about if he’d get enough socialization and activities, and Sharon was so great in meeting other nannies, creating community for my son with his friends.
5. Always willing to take my son to activities! Sharon is so flexible with taking my son to his classes, MyGym, library story time, indoor playgrounds, even when things are far 25-35 minutes walk and more.
Working with Nerisia has been an absolute dream for the last 3.5 years. Nerisia approaches every day with kindness, energy, and adventure. She is fantastic with newborns and has supported our daughter’s development from 6 weeks through all of her major milestones. She has organized her meals every day, done laundry each week for both of our kids, and has curated exciting daily adventures around New York City. She has organized a wonderful playgroup for our daughter and even arranged and decorated her birthday parties. Whether it was picnics, playdates, museums, or rainy day art activities, Nerisia has always ensured that our daughter’s day was structured and engaging.

Lana was with us for over 2 years and helped with my newborn and twin boys. She was great with all of them, and my kids still love catching up with her, even my daughter who was about 2.5 the last time Lana took full time care of her! She truly is the best!
Lana is trustworthy, reliable, and punctual. She always came to work on time and stayed late when we needed her to. She’s an excellent cook, and was able to adapt to our requests – she even cooked some Indian dishes for the kids. We had the added benefit of having some friends in our building who would see Lana with our kids in action and would always comment on how great she was with the kids. She was always incredibly patient and caring. You really couldn’t be getting a better nanny!
While we had her take care of kids laundry and cooking for the kids, she was always willing to help out. if she saw we had our laundry unfolded in the dryer, she’d fold it without asking if she had time. We, of course, never wanted to take advantage so never asked her to do more for us since that’s not what we agreed upon. I’m sure she’d be willing to do more if discussed beforehand.
We never needed her to work weekends, but she was always willing to when needed and I believe has for the last family she was with.
Even now, when we’ve needed someone we could trust to leave our kids with while my son went for a surgery, she was willing to come and help out while her other family was on vacation. She just really is the best nanny you could find!

Daniela is truly so caring and enthusiastic. She has been caring for our almost one year old since he was four months old. I have watched her adapt to his development and needs. She has found wonderful daytime activities at the libraries and also spends a lot of time at the park. She is incredible with him, flexible with his every mood and communicative with us.
Daniela knows how to properly handle breast milk and formula. She is happy to prepare meals now that he is eating solids.
Daniela always tidies up, doing any dishes used during the day and making sure toys are put away when done being used.

This is a reference for Anita Rock. Anita has been our family’s nanny for our three children (who are now 9, 8, and 5) over the past three years. She has been a “super nanny” – in every sense of the phrase.
Prior to coming to us, Anita had worked over the course of nearly 30 years with two other families, both (obviously) for extended periods of time. When we spoke to them, they truly raved about her, about her commitment, her communications, and the degree to which she became a critical part of their families.
Anita has every bit lived up to this in her work with us and our children. She is genuinely a third parent – takes deep ownership over her job; has (almost unbelievably) not taken a day off in three years; is open to working when sick, when the family needs it; is genuinely and remarkably always on time, and in fact early much of the time.
For us, Anita arrives for us at 7:30 in the morning, makes our three kids breakfast (she loves to cook), gets them packed up and ready for school, helps get them out the door, and then brings 1 or 2 of them to school. During the time that they are at school, she makes beds, organizes the house, gets groceries, runs errands (indeed sometimes suggests errands that need to be run, then does them), and does any pre-work required for dinner prep. She then manages school pick-ups and shuttling our eldest two around Brooklyn for after school activities, play-dates, etc.
Our three kids are now nine, eight, and five – and Anita has been with us for three years, so since they were six, five, and two. Throughout, she has been impeccable in terms of parent-level communications – and also has simply brought a tremendous amount of love to the household. She worked deeply with our children to get to know them, to understand them. When she started, our oldest wasn’t super happy about having a new nanny – as he had spent several years with a prior nanny – and he showed up with some attitude. We were impressed at how Anita was able to work with him to win his trust and forge a strong relationship, despite his initial reticence. Our daughter got really into knitting, as an after school activity over the past year, so Anita decided to take it up with her – and now they knit together at home. And for our youngest, she has effectively raised him from when he was an early toddler – with non-stop love and affection throughout.
Anita, as a third parent, is able to lean into structure and discipline where needed. She ensures our kids show up with good manners and take ownership for different parts of their lives. This includes piano lessons, homework, chores – but also instilling good values, etc. This also very much jives with what we heard from prior families. When we were considering working with her, two of the kids she previously worked with, then in college, wrote us the sweetest letters about the many ways in which Anita shaped them as people.
We’re super super sad to be losing Anita, but we needed to shift to a part-time arrangement, which didn’t work for her, so we are now really motivated to help her find an amazing new family. She truly is a gem and will be an incredible fit for some lucky home. Anita lives in NYC, so this would be for a live-out position. We are moving out of New York this summer, and losing Tashi is the hardest part of leaving. She has been the cornerstone of our household for the last four years, caring for our daughter Anya from age 1 to 5 and our son Savan from infancy to age 3. If we were staying, we would keep her forever.
Every recommendation says similar things: reliable, loving, great with kids. Tashi is all of those things, but that does not come close to covering it.
1. She handles emergencies better than we do.
When our toddler took a serious fall and cut his tongue, Tashi assessed the situation and insisted he needed to see a doctor right away. While we got the emergency dentist appointment set up, she took him there herself and managed the entire situation calmly. She handled it entirely, and better than we would have.
When both my husband and I had our flights canceled and were stranded out of town at the same time, Tashi stayed overnight without being asked. She managed bedtime, handled the morning, and kept everything completely normal. By the time we got home, the kids had not even registered that anything unusual had happened.
2. She thinks about the whole child, not just the hours.
Without anyone asking her to, Tashi makes sure our kids video call their grandparents regularly during the day.
She taught Anya the alphabet at two years and three months. By three, she was weaving math into ordinary moments throughout the day. Handing her blueberries, she would ask, “If I give you two more, how many will you have?”
Her discipline is worth calling out as well. She holds high standards for behavior but is never harsh. She is firm and calm in a way that makes the kids feel safe rather than managed. Because of her, both kids know how to communicate their feelings and practice emotional self-regulation, which is not easy to teach.
Both their favorite birthday gifts are always the ones that Tashi gets. She knows both their interests so deeply, and the connection they have is incredibly special. Anya loves school, but she still occasionally asks to skip just so she can spend the day with Tashi instead.
3. She builds their world with total initiative
Tashi does not wait to be told what to do. She completely takes the initiative to plan their days, keeping them physically active and entirely screen-free. She is constantly organizing trips to Governors Island, the zoo, and all over New York because she is always thinking about what will enrich their lives. Savan is obsessed with transit, and she regularly plans ferry boat rides, bus rides, and train rides just for him to explore.
She has also made many fellow nanny friends in the neighborhood and constantly has different playdates and activities organized for the kids. Because of her proactive nature, our children have a wonderful social life.
4. The fundamentals are flawless.
She plans and prepares three fresh, wholesome, and nutritious meals for the children every day. She keeps the kids’ spaces tidy and manages their laundry. When it came to potty training, she was an incredible partner; she even devised a sticker chart system entirely on her own that motivated both children and helped immensely. Logistically, she is an exceptional communicator and is always punctual, professional, and reliable.
Other parents from Anya’s school have tracked me down independently just to tell me how amazing Tashi is and how different she is from other nannies they see at pickup and drop-off.

Our amazing nanny, Danielle, is looking for a new family!
Danielle took care of our older son two years ago, and then (thankfully!) agreed to work with us again this year for a four-month stint before our baby starts daycare in mid-May.

Sabina has truly become a part of our family since she started with us when our oldest was just five months old.
