As little ones, we always loved building with our train tracks and going on trains. Now as grown-ups and speech therapists, we use those activities during our therapy sessions. It’s a great way to target problem-solving, commenting, describing, labeling, and much more! In honor of one of our favorite pastimes, we wanted to list our favorite train-related activities to check out in or near NYC before the holiday season is over.
Holiday Model Train Show
It’s the 25th anniversary for this train show! Come see this annual tradition come to life at the Barron Arts Center located in Woodbridge, NJ. Your children can even go on a scavenger hunt to find specific trains. It’s fun for both adults and children!
New Hope & Ivyland Railroad
Climb aboard this passenger train for an unforgettable experience! The train will take you through historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania. During the North Pole Express you will get to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some hot cocoa and cookies while listening to some Christmas carols.
Black River & Western Railroad
Take photos with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and his elves on this Candy Cane Express – perfect for a younger child who may be overwhelmed by a long train ride. There is a longer choice that stops at the North Pole. All of the children receive a small gift from Santa!
Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Station
This train show makes Grand Central come to life with mini subways, Metro-North, and more! And the best part is that it is connected to the NY Transit Museum store.
