Capturing and Preserving Your Baby’s First Year

By Nicole Braun Carrasco

The first year is full of, well… firsts! Follow these tips so your family will cherish these once in a lifetime moments forever.

Be Camera Ready

This means always having a camera handy that has a charged battery and memory card with a good amount of space in addition to your smartphone. I recommend a light and compact point and shoot digital camera. You have enough to juggle without adding a robust camera to the mix!

Focus on the Details

Tiny hands and feet, the way they look when they sleep. Babies change so much from week to week, you can’t capture enough of them! Get in close, as opposed to zooming in. You have more control of the composition and the image quality will be much better. Also, these photos often look great in black and white.

See the World from Their Perspective

Meet your little subject eye to eye. Sometimes this means sitting on your knees, or lying on your belly!

Capture Candid Moments

It’s great to try for that shot of your baby looking right at the camera and smiling. But, it’s also wonderful to capture the candid moments- laughing, crying, sleeping, eating, playing.

Archive It

Now is the best time to get in the habit of archiving your photos so they are organized and secure.
