Do you remember the teachers in your life who inspired you? The teachers you adored so much, you could probably name them right now even though you haven’t seen them in decades? For me, it was Miss Goldstein. Fifth Grade. Imagine going back in time and being able to give all of your favorite, most deserving teachers a “best teacher” award in front of all their students, family and friends. Well, I attended such a ceremony this week at The Black Board Awards hosted by Manhattan Media.
The Black Boards are parent- and student-nominated awards given to outstanding public and private school teachers in NYC. You know what’s even better than having an outstanding teacher growing up? Having your child have an outstanding teacher! The most amazing part of the awards, aside from deafening cheering from all the adoring children and parents, was that teacher after teacher stood up and said almost the same thing to the audience: “Thank you for the privilege of teaching your children.”
Here’s to all the gifted, talented and wonderful teachers out there who inspired us growing up and who are now inspiring our children. Thank you.
