Summer is the time to have fun! However, much to a parent’s dismay, children will often complain about being bored with nothing to do. This is crazy when there’s so much to do in summertime! If you have a few kids of your own who never seem to know what to do with themselves during summer vacation, here are a few options to keep them busy. You can even join in, too!
Sidewalk chalk can keep children entertained for hours on end. Let them go wild out on the driveway and sidewalks. Give them the opportunity to express themselves and draw anything that they’d like.
Sidewalk chalk can also be used to create old-school, TV-less games like hopscotch and hangman. If your children aren’t inspired, help them by starting the activity or assisting with their pictures.
The Park
Summer is the perfect time for children to play at the park with friends. Of course, there are swings, slides, and monkey bars that your kids will enjoy playing on. But with plenty of open space, activities like tag, Frisbee, and catch will surely bring the family closer together. Break out your gym shoes and comfy clothes and get involved! Invite the other children at the park to join in on a game of freeze tag or some other activity. Gather your sports equipment and practice catching balls or kicking the soccer ball around. There should be plenty of space to hit a few baseballs around, too.
Summer can be a lot more fun for the whole family if your backyard is made for enjoying the break. Make the backyard comfortable by getting outdoor furniture for everyone to enjoy. Get a nice chair to relax in, maybe a swing, and a table for outside meals. Get your grill cooking with hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs, and corn on the cob. Dinners are better when everybody is enjoying it outside!
Another great way to keep the fun going at home is by adding a pool to your backyard. There are many pool services nationwide that offer above ground pool options. They require less space and are cheaper than in-ground pools. Enforce chores to have the children help with cleaning and maintenance! Don’t forget to have routine water safety talks so your kids are aware of the do’s and don’ts of swimming pools. With a pool and a comfortable place to enjoy grilled dinners, your main problem will be sending the other children back home to their own houses!

Bikes and Rollerblades
Bikes and rollerblades are great ways to get your child outside. Riding can be dangerous at times if your neighborhood is busy, but with the proper safety training, it can be an enjoyable time for both you and your kid. Remind your children to look both ways before crossing the streets. Make sure you have proper safety equipment for them to wear. Everyone needs helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads. Bikes also need proper brakes and lights.
Get yourself your own bike or scooter and enjoy a nice relaxing ride around the neighborhood with your kids. It’s also a fun idea to take your bikes on small errands instead of taking the car. You can always get some ice cream or a drink at some point on your trip.
Summer is a time for fun and excitement. It’s also time to enjoy activities that you don’t usually get to enjoy when children are in school. These activities don’t have to be overly expensive. You will be amazed to find how much fun can be had with the things you already have.
