As a child, I remember the act of collecting cans was the extent of anything that resembled recycling. Recycling wasn’t a concept I fully understood or embraced until I was out of college and on my own.
It was easy to recycle when I lived in the city because all I had to do was put it in the bin down the hallway and the building took care of it. At work it was the same story. That was 10 years ago and before I owned my home and had children.
Now, I am vigilant about recycling in my home as well as out and about. Most towns have recycling programs and there are recycling trash receptacles on street corners. The benefits are immeasurable and undeniable.
But what is measurable is my time and what is undeniable is the capacity for me to fully commit to being the best recycler I can. Washing out a peanut butter jar is not fun and determining if the truck that picks up all of my recyclables is actually sorting and recycling appropriately (they all throw it in one truck and crush it???) is seemingly impossible.
So when I was sent a release from Keep America Beautiful about America Recycles Day, it excited me to see their top 10 tips to take action this year! Here are their suggestions:
Share the love and see if you can get your family involved in America Recycles Day. There are many ways outlined on their website. Give it a go and let me know what happens.
