Family Pets and Photo Shoots

If I tell you something, will you promise not to judge me? I had a professional photo shoot for our pet turtle named Squirtle. Don’t react yet!

Here’s how it happened: I got a group email from my friend and professional photographer, Emily Dewan, asking if any of us wanted to volunteer to have her take some family photos with our pet turtles. OK, that last part is lie – she really asked if anyone would volunteer to have her take some family photos with our children and family dogs or cats. Since pets are such a big part of a family, Emily wanted some examples of children with their pets to show her clients.

Since I think so highly of Emily and because I adore Squirtle, I immediately volunteered. I’m not sure if shooting a reptile was what Emily was looking for, but Emily is an animal lover and since she probably sensed that my feelings would be hurt if she declined, she agreed.

We had the photo shoot last week and if I do say so myself, the pictures came out amazing! Like any proud parent, I truly feel like Emily captured Squirtle’s personality and my kids had a blast during the shoot.

Here’s to pets being a part of the family (and to all you fellow turtle lovers)!
