Appreciating the Stages We’re In

My baby started kindergarten this week (don’t tell him I called him that), which officiallymakes me a mom who is out of the pre-school/diaper/stroller period. Now I am decidedly in the homework/after-school/soccer mom phase. Before I know it, I’ll be in the sex/drugs/college applications stage.

They say, “When your children are younger, every day feels like a year, but as they get older, every year feels like a day” – and they’re right. I now look at baby pictures (online, of course – who has time to fill an album?) with fondness and nostalgia, while my husband reminds me that many of those moments were pretty awful, and that now is infinitely easier.

For those in the heat of the challenging early years, the cliché is true – it passes too quickly. When your little person says something funny, write it down (I think there’s an app for this); remind yourself that that we all mess up sometimes; get the support you deserve (Mommybites support groups are starting now), and enjoy each amazing moment. Before long, your baby will be off to kindergarten too, and if you’re like me, you may just miss the 3 am feeds and poopy diapers.

    Warmly,

    Chana
