    Find Family Friendly Activities

This past Sunday I tuned in to the Grammy Awards as I am a huge music fan and even though I don’t know half of the songs nominated any more, I still enjoy the show. It’s music, theatrics and I learn a bit more about the artists who sing my favorite songs (their friends, how they like to dress, if they are humble/gracious/etc).

Something I wasn’t expecting during the show was to see a stirring commercial from Chipotle. In general I avoid chain restaurants: bad food, poor service, icky decor and generally a lack of organic and healthy food options. Also they don’t usually buy local, which I am a big supporter of when it comes to food especially.

But this commercial gave me a new respect for Chipotle. If you are a Coldplay or Willie Nelson fan, the song “The Scientist” (originally sung and written by Coldplay) is performed by Willie. His voice gives this video a haunting tone that causes you to pay attention to the simple animation. The animation drives home a point that it was all so easy and now it has become so hard to keep up with the pace mass food manufactures have created.

The eat local philosophy is super important and very easy to follow: buy local and do not support food factories. In order to weed out all of the unnecessary additives in our food, we need to buy from grocery stores, restaurants and producers who don’t put them into our foods. Demand will change our supply; simple economics has always worked.

So kudos to this video for being a simple reminder and a brilliant way to illustrate how it can be done correctly.

Check your food labels when you are buying food. Is it a local farm that provided the fruit, meat or milk in your cart?
