Part I: THE SKINNY (in other words, what’s the product being reviewed, why is it different and why should I consider buying it?)
What is a BabyBjörn?
According to Björn Jakobson, founder of BabyBjörn, “Carrying your newborn on your chest is like floating on a cloud.” And it is this very sentiment that lay the ground for our thinking behind how we carry our children. Our goal with all BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers is quite simply that parents should love carrying their child in a baby carrier – and that baby should love being carried by his or her mom or dad (or caregiver).”
There are a lot of baby carriers out there. What makes BabyBjorn different?
“We work with leading pediatricians and midwives from all over the world. One of these is at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, who, as early as the 1970s, was instrumental in the groundbreaking research on close physical contact between newborns and their parents. Naturally, we are especially thrilled that Dr. Fanaroff and his team work with us today, as it was his research that inspired us to develop the first baby carrier. Medical experts’ knowledge is invaluable to us, and their opinions critical when we develop new products, or refine existing ones.”
Any other cool facts moms should know about?
“This year marks the 50th anniversary of BABYBJÖRN, and we want to celebrate it with you!
We love babies and small children as much as parents around the world love their little ones. With our products we want to simplify everyday life for you and your little child, and make it more enjoyable. This has been our goal ever since we started in 1961. ‘Happy baby, happy parents’ is our motto.”
Part II: THE REVIEW* (In other words, what does an every day person NOT affiliated with the company think of the product?):
My BabyBjörn Carrier was a lifesaver for me with both my first and my second child, but for different reasons. My son was one of those babies who wanted to be held all the time, but this made getting anything done impossible. He always screamed as I put him into the Björn, but once in, he would snuggle up and fall right to sleep. I was able to get things done around the house and I loved having him near me.
With my daughter, the Björn made it easier for me to follow her brother around the playground without worrying about leaving her off in the stroller. I also quickly learned that navigating the subway was far easier with the Björn than trying to find a station with a working elevator and getting into a cab was way less stressful since I didn’t have to figure out how to get the baby in the seat and the stroller in the trunk.
However, the one problem with the BabyBjörn was that it didn’t work as a back baby carrier. Once they were too big for the front, I still wanted to be able to carry them on my back for both the convenience and because it is a fun way for them to get around and makes it easy to chat with them on the go. Finally, this fall, they are introducing a new carrier, the BabyBjörn ONE, that can be used on both the front (forward and back facing) and the back!
The new design is made for children from 8 lbs – 33 lbs, so up to about 3 years old. This latest addition to the Björn line of products has the same high-quality design that has made the Original Carrier a must-have for parents around the world. It was created so one person can easily get the child into and out of the Björn safely. There is plenty of padding so that the straps don’t dig into your shoulders. I was especially impressed with how easy it is for one person to get a toddler in place in the backpack and how comfortable it was. I know I was nervous putting my newborn into it for the first time, but the design has been well researched to ensure it is safe. The back support helps protect your back from aching.
The BabyBjörn ONE retails for $199 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. This is worthwhile investment considering it can be used for a few years per child and will last through multiple children. Thank goodness it can be machine washed!

*What exactly does a sponsored product review mean? Well, it goes a little something like this: unlike all of our educational content blogs where we receive NO compensation, for our S.O.S reviews Mommybites has been compensated by companies to review and discuss their product.
