A Letter from Heather – Praying to The Sleep God

Hi Everyone!

I just got back from the babybites lunch on sleep where we had a packed room of over 20 moms.

All this sleep talk reminded me of what up until recently I had repressed. That is, just how downright difficult chronic sleep deprivation is on a new mom. It’s like having the flu and jet lag at the same time. I remember after weeks of only sleeping a few hours a night, having bizarre prayer sessions with ‘The Sleep God’ that went something like this:

“Dear all-knowing and all-powerful Sleep God, please, oh please, for the love everything holy let my baby sleep for six uninterrupted hours. Just six. That’s it. And if you do this for me, I promise I will never eat chocolate again, I will never feel annoyed when people are driving too slowly, I will always hold open the elevator door, I will read less US Weekly and more newspapers. Six hours please, man, and I will be indebted to you until the end of time.”

I know this doesn’t really help all those moms in the midst of it (it sure as heck didn’t help me) but here’s to the fact that at some point, The Sleep God does hear you and at some point your babies really will start sleeping through the night!

Cheers!
Heather
