Modern conveniences certainly make life easier. Just think of all of the “upgrades” in our everyday lives since even we were children: automatic windows, refrigerators, mechanical pencils, disposable storage containers, variety and selection of clothing/accessories and so much more.
But in this race to provide ample amount of options and make things easier, our environment has been compromised. I know it; I see it; I read it. And with almost every purchase I make and every household decision I make, our impact on the environment factors into my actions.
Now I am not going to sit here and say I dare to know everything about being green nor do I in any way practice a green lifestyle in a purely altruistic way. Many of the decisions I make for my family are based on convenience and cost. I am a mom of two young girls, I work at home almost full time and my husband travels five days out of the week. My time is limited in a way that requires me to make snap decisions with limited resources on a regularly occurring basis.
But with knowledge comes power; I know the better decisions to be made (paper v. plastic, fresh v. canned, organic v. non-organic) and with this knowledge comes the power for me to choose a better way and a better choice for my family and ultimately for the environment because what I truly believe in my heart is that what is good for my family is also good for the environment.
So, hi, I’m Elise and I am a green mom. Follow me on my journey to living an environmentally conscious lifestyle with a family in tow. There are some really exciting things brewing for the Mommybites’ community who would like to come along on my green journey.
I promise I am not crunchy or “granola”y in any way (I love a good spa day and dressing up in my Louboutins) and I am very practical. I also believe to each their own and to make it what you will, so there will be no preaching. What I will do is give you a peak into my life (the fun and the struggles) as I create a clean, green life and home.
Let’s do it.
