Top 6 Reasons Your Baby Isn’t Sleeping

The struggle is real. Today’s parents are more tired than ever and the culprit is often a 10lbs bundle of love aka a non-sleeping baby. Sleep seems so natural, but so many parents are doing it wrong.

Today I attended Kylee’s lecture on the Top 3 Reasons Your Baby Isn’t Sleeping. And guess what, there are WAY more than 3 reasons why and here they are…

6 Reasons Your Baby Isn’t Sleeping

    1. You are missing baby’s sleep cues

It’s important to spot baby’s glazed over look which typically happens 20 minutes before baby rubs his eyes and gets cranky.

    2. Blackout shades

No, not blinds, not curtains, but dark black, you-can’t-see-a-thing blackout shades provide the best sleep environment for baby.

    3. Patting, rocking or nursing baby to sleep

I know, we are all guilty. But did you know that these actions do not allow baby to learn to put himself to sleep? Baby needs to learn how to self-soothe.

    4. Bedtime is too late

Wouldn’t you love some extra quiet minutes at night? Kylee suggests making baby’s bedtime 30-60 minutes earlier.

    5. No consistent routine

We all know that life gets busy, but babies will benefit from a nightly routine of dinner, bath, books, and bed. A routine creates predictability for baby.

    6.  Use white noise or other noise machines

Finally, the baby is accidentally stimulated by white noise or other noise machines that play lullabies or ocean sounds. Kylee explains that the darkest brown noise found on LectroFan Kinder is ideal. The noise is boring, masks other noise and is soothing.
