Raw Food Introduction

Blythe MetzHello Mommybites community. My name is Blythe Metz. I host a 1-hour live weekly show called Blythe Raw Live. I teach quick and easy raw food recipes, raw beauty treatments, and give tips to help us all live a more environmentally considerate lifestyle.

I was asked to contribute some of my expertise to your wonderful community, and I jumped at the opportunity. I know the challenge parents have when it comes to feeding our children truly well. Billion-dollar ad campaigns are in place to skew us into thinking this cereal is healthy or that boxed lunch set. When the truth is, the most ideal foods come straight from the farmer (who doesn’t have money to spend on marketing) or our own back yards.

I consider myself a flexi-tarian or nutriti-tarian, I eat for nutrition. My diet happens to be about 98% vegan. For me, it’s not important to label myself vegan or vegetarian. If I’m traveling, I may partake in some meat or dairy in other countries, where the animals are handled with honor…or not. I allow myself to be in the moment when it comes to that. High-quality animal fats can be necessary for some people and totally unnecessary for others.

Food is our medicine… or it can be the cause of our illness. The choices we make everyday with our diets determine our health. I have seen this truth over and over again.

I married a man from Estonia, a small country in North Eastern Europe. He was a meat and potatoes man. He enjoyed his meat, cheese, bread, wine, and espresso daily. I naturally have a different composition. All of those foods can slow me down or make me feel not optimal, unless consumed with plenty of fresh vegetables or fruits.

My husband and I didn’t live together until we were married. Being the chef of the house, after we were married, I prepared dinner every night in a much different style than he was accustomed to. At first, he was like, “where’s the man’s food?”  Seven years later, he says to me after having my spicy kale salad, “kale is my favorite food!”

I never preached vegetarianism to him, I don’t feel anyone should try to implement an eating style for anyone else. I simply lead by example. He found on his own that eating the food that I prepared felt great. He dropped the 10 lbs excess weight he had and toned up into the super-fit super hot guy that he is ~ Ryan Gosling style☺

Putting the focus on adding fresh foods to our diet, instead of on what foods should be eliminated, is a stronger start for ones looking to adjust their diets.

As the next several months unfold, I will provide you with quick and easy recipes and tips to help family meals be nutrient dense and tasty. I will give you recipes and tips for packing the kids lunches and for throwing eco-friendly kids parties.

Many quick and easy raw food recipes and videos are available to you on www.blytheRaw.com. The Raw Clips page is a user friendly resource for finding the 5  minute video for the recipe you’d like to make. Chose from Tomato basil hemp soup, acai super berry ice cream, jungle peanut salad, and many more. Simply look through the list of various recipes and pick the video clip to watch me make it. All written recipes can be found on the Kitchen Recipes page. Also, enjoy the Bath Recipes page for easy breezy natural beauty recipes.

I look forward to interacting with all of you more as the months unfold. My live show is every Friday at 12 PST on www.Usteam.Tv/blytheRaw.  Production is off during the summer, but we will be back with new shows Sept 7, 2012. The full show archives can also be viewed from the above link.
