Feeding the World While Laughing

It’s probably no surprise that I love the honest, funny and always truthful blog, Scary Mommy. For those of you who know me and/or have come to know me via Mommybites, you know that I love to laugh (with such wild abandon that I often slap the knees of the people around me in pure delight), and that I am a huge advocate of non-judgmental views on differing parenting preferences. So, it’s no wonder that I love Scary Mommy, which was started 6 years ago by the hysterical and gifted Jill Smokler, and is now an “on-site confessional where moms can anonymously share whatever is on their minds in a judgment free environment.”

Just when I thought I could not love this site any more than I already do, I learned about their Thanksgiving Project, which brings the advice given by Mother Teresa to fruition: “If you can’t feed 100 people, then feed just one.” With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away, I thought I would share the link and information on this incredible project. In a nutshell, it anonymously connects families who otherwise would not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal with volunteer monetary donors.

Here’s a quote from a past  Scary Mommy Recipient:

“We weren’t planning on having a Thanksgiving dinner at all in 2011, so when I was able to receive help, I felt like I’d won the lottery. I cried tears of joy ripping into the envelope and vowed at that moment to pay it forward. This year, I have a job, have paid down debt and am able to contribute to someone else’s meal. Doing that was one of the proudest moments of my life.”

Please visit the Scary Mommy website to learn more and be a part of this amazing initiative.

Here’s to feeding the world one family at a time.
