Quarantine and social distancing got your family down? It’s time to switch up your regular dinners and have a family pizza night! Your family will love this traditional American pastime. While it’s easy to just order a few pizzas from your local pizza shop, making them at home involves your entire family, and all family members can customize the pizza to their liking.

Whether you make family pizza night a recurring, weekly event, or just have it once in a while as a special occasion, your family will enjoy it. Here’s how to throw the best family pizza night!

Knead the Dough

It’s no doubt that anything homemade tastes better. Plus, you feel more accomplished when you pull off a dish like pizza! Use a basic pizza dough recipe to make the dough. Your kids can get involved by helping you add ingredients and knead them together.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even toss the dough in the air a few times. It’ll be entertaining for everyone! And if you’re feeling a little lazier, many pizza places will sell you their dough. Just ask!

Make Side Dishes

For a night where your family is extra hungry, you’ll want a side dish or two. You can make chicken wings, salad or any other side dish your family enjoys.

While you’re assembling side dishes, your dough can get the proper amount of resting time.

Prep the Toppings

One of the best advantages to making your pizza at home is that you can choose toppings you know your family loves and are able to eat. For example, if someone in your family is vegetarian, they can load their personal pie with delicious veggies and substitutions.

Even better, each topping will be super fresh! If you’re feeling adventurous, you can make your own sauce.

If family members have food allergies, no problem! You can safely make their pizza without dairy, wheat, or any common allergen.

Assemble the Pizzas

Next, you can roll out your dough into whatever shape you want the pizzas. Place the prepared dough on a pan or pizza peel so it can go into the oven.

Everyone can add their sauce, cheese and any other toppings they would like. Remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect because it will surely taste good.

Bake and…Eat!

For authentic wood-fired pizzas, you can invest in an outdoor pizza oven. This would be great if you have family pizza night often. An oven works just as well! Bake pizzas in a 475 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Broil the pizza for the last couple of minutes to get the cheese bubbly, but be sure to keep close watch so it doesn’t burn.

Once your pizzas are out of the oven, allow them to cool. Then, enjoy! You can cut each pizza into slices to make it easy for your family members to share and try each other’s pizza creation.

Play Games

What’s a family pizza night without some family fun and competition? Get out your favorite games and play while you eat or once you’re finished eating.

Family pizza night is meant to be relaxing and fun, so it’s always a good idea to play a board game or two that night.

Pizza Makes Everything Better

Pizza is one of those meals that makes everyone smile and brings everyone together. If you’re short on time, you can always order a pizza to support a local business or grab some pre-made dough!

Carve out time during a busy week or month to make a meal that your family will love and remember for years to come. Go with the flow during family pizza night and enjoy every slice.
