What is a babymoon?

You asked and you shall now receive. It’s only fair for us to share all of this stored up knowledge about having a baby and what is going on with your body during those nine (really ten) months. We now will answer, in a very public forum, all of those burning questions about having a baby. Each Monday, we will tackle a commonly-asked-question from the point of view of an expectant parent. Chiming in to give feedback will be an expert (you know someone who does this for a living). Earmark, share and add your own input to today’s question; it’s good karma.

What is a babymoon? Are any better than others?

What is all this talk of a babymoon? Some guesses that have been mentioned – a baby conceived on a honeymoon, a mobile crescent for the crib, and a version of Baby Einstein DVD’s!

Rest assured, it is not something you need to put on your never ending registry list, but simply a vacation or getaway you take with your partner before your little munchkin arrives.

For every baby bump, there is a new parent whispering, “Get rest now”, “Sleep as much as you can”, “Enjoy yourself.” A babymoon is a much needed rest and rejuvenation before we enter into the first few weeks of diaper duty and sleepless nights.

Are there any better than others? Yes! The best babymoons are going to the places that you love – it can be simple or elaborate.

Here are some of the activities expecting moms have shared that they enjoyed on their babymoons:
– Relaxing by the pool
– Getting a prenatal massage
– Going for nature walks
– Going to local shows and plays
– Going for drives in the countryside
– Getting a belly cast made of their baby bump
– Taking maternity portraits
– Splurging on fine dining
– Spending a day seeing movies

It can be anything; just a break from the norm to celebrate this exciting time!

Whether it is a romantic island getaway, or a weekend getaway in the Adirondacks or the shore, think down time, think relaxation, think selfishly – its all about you and you partner – what ever your whims desire. It’s a wonderful time to enjoy each others company before the big day!
