The 10 Best City Strollers

By Sharon Feiereisen

No matter your lifestyle, we’ve got the perfect pick(s) for you when it comes to the best city strollers.

I used to collect Sergio Rossi shoes and Miu Miu handbags, but now, much to my husband’s chagrin, I collect strollers. While you can certainly get away with only owning one, it makes life outside the home a heck of a lot easier to have multiple. Inside the home, as someone who lives in Manhattan, that’s another story (but, hey, that’s what basement storage units are for…).

Keep reading for a look at the best city strollers.

The Best On-The-Go With One Child Stroller: Babyzen YOYO²

If I’m alone with one of my kids and need to take an Uber, I always use my Babyzen YOYO². It folds and unfolds swiftly and is super compact. It also comes in handy when you’re going somewhere where strollers aren’t allowed. Plus, if you’re taking public transportation that involves stairs, it can be worn like a shoulder bag thanks to an attached strap.

Of course, all of this also means that the Babyzen YOYO² doesn’t have much storage. It’s narrow and has limited depth but it does have a conveniently accessible zipper pouch behind the seat for essentials like phone, keys, and wallet.

The fact that it’s light also means the wheels aren’t the most sturdy (I’m the type that likes to push with one hand and type with the other and that’s not something you can do here), which is why I save it for when I’m on-the-go though many use it as their everyday stroller.

The Best On-The-Go With Two Children Stroller: Zoe The Twinᵛ²

Zoe The Twinᵛ² is quick to assemble and has a good amount of storage, both by the handlebar and down below. Most importantly, it can be opened and closed so easily you could do it with your eyes closed. It’s also comfortable for the kids, so it’s great if you have children that still nap.

Plus, it’s the only double stroller that is approved by every airline for gate check (yes, even American Airlines!). I use this all the time when I’m out and about with both kids in the city and know I will need to use an Uber or public transportation.

The Best Statement Stroller: CYBEX by Jeremy Scott Car Priam

I did IVF so I knew early on when I was pregnant and as soon as I found out, I got the CYBEX by Jeremy Scott Wings Priam Stroller. It was on display at Bloomingdale’s on 59th street like a piece of art – literally in a glass case like the Mona Lisa – and I had been eyeing it throughout my long journey to pregnancy.

I didn’t think Jeremy Scott could beat his Wings design, but he has with the recent launch of his Car Collection. It is stunning beyond words. I told my husband jokingly (or not?) that the bassinet makes me want to have a third child.

The Best Running Stroller: Thule Urban Glide 3

If you’re looking for a running stroller that feels smooth like butter even across bumpy city terrain, check out the Thule Urban Glide 3. I ran a 5K with my Thule and I didn’t feel like it slowed me down one bit. In fact, it was the opposite and gave me support as I slightly leaned on it when I began to tire. My child was peaches and roses – literally asleep (it was a night race). I could easily see this being an everyday city stroller as well as there is a good amount of storage.

The Best Budget Luxury Stroller: Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 2.0

It’s undoubtedly worth every penny and then some, but as anyone shopping for strollers knows, having children is insanely expensive, especially in those early years. We all think paying $1500-plus for a bassinet (ahem Snoo) sounds bananas until you actually have a baby and you realize you’ll do anything to make it to year one with your sanity in check (for the record I used the Snoo with both my children and it’s priceless).

That brings me to the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 2.0. If you’re looking for the “luxury” stroller look you get from brands like UPPAbaby and Bugaboo but for about one-third the price, this should be your pick. It’s not quite as sturdy as those, but for the price you can’t complain. Plus, it comes in great color combinations, can easily be converted into a double, and has roomy storage.

The Best Wagon Stroller: Radio Flyer Voya Stroller Wagon

I know what you’re thinking, a wagon for the city, no way! Hear me out. First off, your kids or your child and their friend will love the Radio Flyer Voya Stroller Wagon. They can play and interact and even eat with the included tray easily and safely. While you’d think this would be impossible to push along city streets, it’s not.

It’s super smooth and glides, as you’d think a stroller double its price, would. I had it delivered to the Hamptons since I assumed that’s where I would mostly use it, but because my kids love it so much I’ve brought it to the city on occasion. It also folds up quickly, can stand upright when folded, and takes up a lot less space folded than you’d think, one of the best city strollers, for sure.

The Best Stroller If You’re Lazy: CYBEX e-Gazelle S Stroller

The CYBEX e-Gazelle S stroller is genius. The single-to-double stroller has e-powered hill and uneven surface support, which if you’re a mom of two you know how game-changing that would be. I always thought the city was flat until I had to push two young children for long stretches. This is an e-powered version of the Gazelle S, which itself is a great option as it has an incredible amount of storage when used as a single and is relatively slim for a double.

The Best Multitasking Stroller: Doona Car Seat & Stroller

Doona Car Seat & Stroller is one of the best city strollers that is both unique and very popular. It simplifies everyday life with its innovative design that allows it to work as a car seat that extends into a stroller with the click of a button. It’s also compact in every one of its iterations, so it can easily wiz around tight city streets or fit into a small car. The downside is that it’s not a “forever” stroller in that your child will likely outgrow it after about 12 to 15 months of age.

The Best Trike: Bentley 6-in-1 Stroller Trike

For toddlers who are refusing to get into their strollers because they rather walk, consider the  Bentley 6-in-1 Stroller Trike. There are plenty of times we want to walk with our toddler, but just don’t have the time for that glacially slow pace. This stylish trike comes in very handy for those moments. Plus, it has six configurations so it will outlast most other trike options.

The Best Everyday Eco-Minded Stroller: Bugaboo Dragonfly

There’s a reason you see Bugaboo all over – they are one of the best city strollers! One of their latest launches is the Dragonfly, which was specifically made to be more sustainable to reach a net zero future by 2035. It also has a modular design meaning it’s easy to repair if you plan on using it for multiple children. Plus, it was specifically designed with the urban parent in mind and those looking for an easy-to-maneuver, small and lightweight stroller.
