Keeping Your Kids’ New Year Resolutions

I am a big breaker of new year resolutions. However, this year’s involved my son, so I am trying my hardest not to break it. He announced on January 1st that his resolution was to “do more cooking with mommy.” Totally adorable and melted my heart. The fact that he used the word “more” was quite kind of him. I am terrible in the kitchen and always thank my lucky stars that I live in NYC, where there are many supermarkets that have prepared (somewhat healthy-ish) foods, so I only have to do limited cooking.

But heck – if that was his resolution, then mine was damn well going to be to do more cooking with him! So that’s what I’ve done. He’s gluten intolerant, so we’ve been using a great kids’ gluten-free cookbook that his aunt gave him. So far, we’ve made cornflake/pretzel coated chicken nuggets and apple cinnamon muffins. And guess what? They may not be the prettiest, but they taste delicious and we’re sure having fun together making them!

Here’s to children having the best new year resolutions, and to the adults who help them keep them.
