Tween Book Recommendations

One of my favorite ways to bond with my now tween-age son is through books. That’s right. I get most of my book recommendations these days from a 12-year-old boy. So far, we’ve read The Hunger Games series, the Divergent series and we both just started The Maze Runner.

And I am not embarrassed to say that I genuinely enjoy them (sometimes even more than he does, I think). Just last night, my husband caught my son and me up way past both of our bedtimes, trying to finish The Maze Runner so we can see the movie this weekend.

The only time we disagree is when it comes to the “love connections” that often occur in these books (e.g., Katniss and Peeta/Gale, Tris and Four, and now, Thomas and Teresa). Basically, I love them, but he feels they don’t really “add to the plot” (or so he says…). Regardless, I look forward to continuing our mother/son book club for as long as he lets me.

Here’s to tweens having the best book recommendations!
