Happy almost Mother’s Day! This year deserves to be extra-special because moms are really going the distance logging endless hours in quarantine with kiddos or at essential work jobs. So it’s a great excuse to ask for what you really want from your family and give what you know your own mother deserves. If you’re looking for any extra ideas, here are a few to get the wheels spinning!
Something reminiscent of a spa
There’s no telling when a trip to the spa will happen again. Until then, find something truly spectacular to soak in, scrub with, or slather on yourself at home. L’Occitane 10-Piece Pampering Delights set ($28.50) comes with luxurious shower oil, cream, lip balm, and more little treatments to try, all in a handy pouch that you can reuse in any creative way.
Something to distract the mind
We all need a little escape from reality at the moment. What better way to do that than reading an absorbing book? Some especially popular ones at the moment—such as Wow, No Thank You by Samantha Irby, It’s Not All Downhill From Here by Terry McMillan, The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate, and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng—can really take you away for a day, or a week!
Something to wear around the house
Spice up that work-from-home, play-at-home, always-at-home wardrobe with a breezy onesie like the Juniper Jumpsuit by Frances Mama ($168). It’s loose enough to wear during practically any stage of motherhood, and will last three seasons with good layering. Comfortable enough to wear around the house but chic enough to keep on if you do happen to go for a safe walk around the block.
Something to break a sweat
The gym is closed. You don’t have room for bulky equipment. But you still want to exercise during quarantine. A pair of half-pound Bala Bangles ($40) will kick up the challenge during any at-home workout. Whether you’re doing a coordinated routine or just laps around your kitchen table, you’ll feel the difference with these rose gold weights on your wrists or ankles.
Something to gaze at for hours
Gather some favorite family photos and let Minted create a beautiful Heart Snapshot Mix ($42 and up) to display some of your sweetest memories. Moms will love looking at this special keepsake, complete with 30 personal images that make for a true work of art.
Something to snack on
You’ve been filling your freezer with veggies and your pantry with pasta and beans. It’s time to have something fun just because mom deserves it. These Custom Message Shortbread Cookies ($36) would work wonderfully with a simple HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY inscribed. And there are so many other ways to get creative with quotes, inside jokes, and mom-isms.
Something priceless from your loving family
Oftentimes, the things moms want most aren’t bought in a store or on the Internet. Think about what that could be and then ask and/or give! Perhaps you need a few hours of uninterrupted alone time. Or the TV, bathroom, or kitchen all to yourself for the afternoon. Maybe it’s an entire day without [fill in the blank]… such as changing diapers, making bottles, hearing any whining, or more. Have your partner take over meal planning for the coming week, if that’s part of Mom’s usual duties. Ask the kids to clean the house as best they can. And then give the most important mom in your life a call just to chat 1-on-1. Hopefully it will give you the recharge you need on this most unusual, but still very special, of Mother’s Days.
