Our Fight for an AIDS Free Generation

“This is not about charity. This is about justice.” -Bono

Our habits are changing dramatically in the ways that we consume, educate and share. What we choose to do and buy creates new economies that can affect someone’s life on the other side of the world. There is no doubt that the tremendous power of the generation we are both a part of and one that we are raising has a huge responsibility. We at (RED) believe that every generation is known for something. Let’s be the one that delivers the first AIDS FREE GENERATION in over 30 years.

Here’s something I didn’t know until I started working in this field:  An HIV+ pregnant woman can have a baby that is HIV free. By getting medicine to those women – medicine that costs just 40 cents a day in sub-Saharan Africa (the most impacted region) – we can prevent the transmission of HIV from moms to their babies in over 95% of cases. Today and every day 700 babies will be born with HIV. We can get that number close to zero.

(RED) was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage companies and people in the fight against AIDS. (RED) partners with the world’s most iconic brands – from Apple to Starbucks to Beats by Dr. Dre, and many more – who contribute up to 50% of profits from (RED) branded goods and services to The Global Fund to fight AIDS. To date, (RED) has raised over $240 million dollars with 100% of that money going to the Global Fund.

Here’s where you come in! World AIDS Day is coming up on December 1st – the actions you take over here can make a difference for someone living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Here are 3 ways you can take action:

1. Dance (RED)! The DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES 2 album set features tracks from Katy Perry, Calvin Harris and so many more! 24 songs from some of the biggest names in music and the biggest DJs in the world costs only $9.99 and ALL of the proceeds go directly to the fight against AIDS. If 100,000 people buy the album, together we’ll raise $1 million to fight AIDS.  That could provide 2,500,000 days of medication for HIV+ mothers.

2. Buy (RED). You’ll find loads of great holiday gifts from partners like Apple, Beats by Dre, Belvedere, Live Nation Entertainment, Starbucks, Bed Bath & Beyond, FEED, Theory and many more!  We even have an ADO(RED) Onesie which can provide 15 days of life-saving medication. Every (RED) purchase can provide life-saving medicine.

3. Make it a (RED) Grande! For every handcrafted beverage purchased on December 1st at Starbucks in the US and Canada, they will donate 10 cents to fight AIDS.

Dance (RED), buy (RED), share (RED), and drink (RED). Whatever you choose to do, we hope you’ll join us on World AIDS Day and help us make the possibility of an AIDS FREE GENERATION a reality.
