CYBER MONDAY: 5 Ways to Get Great Deals

by Jeff Kaplan, CEO of LOZO, a free website that shows you ways to save money with tips, resources, coupons and more.

Holiday discounts have been around for weeks…and they’re not over yet! We expect the sales to continue right through Christmas with promotions like “the return of Black Friday/Cyber Monday” deals.

All that said, you can still expect to find some new deals on the upcoming “real” Cyber Monday—the Monday after Thanksgiving—when online stores offer deals to e-shoppers who still have some things left on their list.

Here are 5 great ways to get the best deals on Cyber Monday. You can also visit LOZO for even more money-saving Cyber Monday tips.

  1. Remember “Classic” Money-Saving Tips: Whether you’re shopping on Cyber Monday or any other day of the year, there are a few tried and true tips that will always save you money: read the most reliable reviews to find the best product, comparison shop to find the lowest price and, finally, use coupons and cash back rebates to lower your costs!
  2. Track Recent Sales: A great benefit of Cyber Monday is that it comes right after Black Friday and the multiple sales that led up to it. Keep your BF circulars on hand to compare offers and use online references like CyberMonday.com, FatWallet’s interactive list of Black Friday Deals, SlickDeals’ list of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and BlackFriday.info.
  3. Shop Throughout the Day: Companies may be running flash sales (sales with very short runs) throughout the day that you’ll want to take advantage of.  Even if a company isn’t running flash sales, they may release inventory or new deals throughout the day to accommodate different time zones.  Check online every couple hours to see what new offers pop up.  This applies to items that are out of stock too.  If you see something you want listed as sold out, check back later to see if the store has released more inventory later in the day.  Also, sometimes customers will return items the same day, causing a previously sold out item to re-appear.
  4. Shop for More Than Just “Big Box” Items: Sometimes we’re so focused on “big box” items like new TVs, that we forget Cyber Monday is a great day to pick up a lot of “regular” stuff too.  Do you need some things for the home? Perhaps some new office supplies? Maybe some clothes or a new pair of shoes?  None of these are “doorbuster” material, but we’ll still be glad to get a great deal on them and Cyber Monday is a great day to find one.
  5. Place Multiple Orders: Putting an item in your shopping cart doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get the deal—only buying it does! For this reason, if you’re shopping for a long time, it’s best to place orders periodically to ensure you get the deals you want. You don’t want to load up your cart only to find that half of the items you wanted are sold out a couple hours later when you’re ready to place your order. Be mindful of free shipping and coupon thresholds too. For example, if you have a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $40 or more, try to place your orders in installments of $40, using a coupon on each order.

Happy shopping!  (And, if you still want more, visit LOZO for the rest of our Cyber Monday shopping tips.)
