Making Smooth Summer Transitions

Chana here – mom of two and former lawyer-turned-fitness professional who also runs the Brooklyn chapter of Mommybites. From now on, the first newsletter of each month will include a little intro from yours truly. I am honored to pen my first here.

June has arrived (how did that happen?) This month brings many transitions – the end of school, the start of summer camp, new surroundings. This can be stressful for both adults and kids. To make the shifts as smooth as possible, here are some tips:

  • Tell your kids about upcoming changes
  • Provide as much continuity in routine as possible
  • Talk about all the fun things you’ll be doing this summer
  • Acknowledge your children’s feelings and anxieties
  • Share your own feelings

Here’s to smooth transitions and a wonderful summer season!

P.S. Brooklyn moms, you may have noticed that there are no in-person events scheduled for the summer other than next Wednesday’s Brooklyn Heights support group for new moms. That is because I head to sleep away camp for the summer to teach fitness. However, you can still participate in our great free on-line events and I promise fabulous in-person events in just a few months. I miss you already.
