I love reading in the summer. I love nothing more than a hot, sunny day at the beach, sitting in a lounge chair and losing myself in a really good “beach read.” In fact, not to brag, but I am so good at “beach reading and relaxing” that for Mother’s Day, when my youngest son was asked to write a poem in school about “all the things my mom is good at,” he noted that his mom “is an exceptional lounger” and then drew a picture of me relaxing in a lounge chair.
Luckily, he also listed some other things he feels I am good at – like “arts & crafts and being a good listener.” But one of my favorite parts of the poem was when he said that he likes to “lounge with me.” So when I was at the beach the other day, reading my book, and looked over to see him sitting next to me – sunglasses on, book in hand, lounging away – I had to smile. Like mother, like son.
Here’s to playing hard AND lounging hard this summer.
