Q: Tell us a little about you (your background, your job, what makes you tick or anything else you think our Mommybites moms will find interesting).

I grew up in South Dakota and was always enamored with music, whether it was devouring the Beatles or singing in the church choir. My father taught me to play the guitar when I was 10 and I really never looked back, so I’m lucky enough to have a job I love.

Q: What or who inspires you?

Just about anything I can lay my hands on! I’ll take inspiration from anything – from the most obvious, such as people I love, or even a phrase from the newspaper or an overheard conversation. And I’m inspired endlessly by the music I love.

Q: What is your best piece of parenting advice?

Give everything and expect nothing.

Q: What’s the worst piece of parenting advice you have heard?

Spare the rod and spoil the child.

Shawn Colvin, starlighter, grammy winning artist
